A journey through Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook in pictures

Lake Tekapo, a small country town located on the South Island of New Zealand is picturesque and makes it a perfect journey for a pitstop en route to Queenstown from Christchurch and vice versa. The stunning snow capped Southern Alps provide the perfect backdrop over the turquoise blue waters of Lake Tekapo. You will definitely fall in love with the views surrounding the lake and come back to visit again and again.

On the shores of Lake Tekapo overlooking the Southern Alps sits the Church of The Good Shepherd. It’s the most photographed church in the South Island of New Zealand and can get very crowded with photographers. The best time to visit is just before sunrise when the first rays of the sun gently touch the lake shores.

The tallest mountain in New Zealand, Mount Cook / Aoraki located over an hour’s drive from Lake Tekapo is a rugged land of ice and glaciers. It’s a perfect place to take a helicopter ride over Mount Cook and an opportunity to experience landing on Fox Glacier. It’s one of the few glaciers in the world which lies in close proximity to both rain forest and an ocean. When we landed on Fox Glacier the snow was frozen due to heavy rain and freezing temperatures the night before.
